Background of the Study
Child safety is a paramount public concern, and effective awareness campaigns are essential for preventing accidents and ensuring the well-being of young citizens. In Kano, Kano State, digital animation-based campaigns are emerging as an innovative strategy to communicate safety messages in a compelling and accessible manner. Digital animation offers the unique ability to transform complex safety information into engaging narratives that resonate with both children and adults. By using animated characters, dynamic scenarios, and interactive elements, these campaigns can vividly illustrate the risks associated with unsafe behaviors, such as crossing roads without caution or playing in hazardous areas (Ibrahim, 2023). Recent studies have shown that multimedia approaches, particularly those involving animation, significantly enhance message retention and influence behavior by appealing to visual and emotional senses (Chinwe, 2024). The proposed campaign will leverage digital animation to create a series of public service announcements and educational videos that are disseminated via social media, local television, and community centers. This approach not only increases the reach of safety messages but also encourages community engagement and dialogue. The system is designed to be adaptable, allowing for updates and modifications based on feedback and evolving safety protocols. The initiative aligns with broader efforts to promote child safety and foster a culture of preventive behavior in urban and rural communities in Kano (Afolabi, 2025).
Statement of the Problem
Traditional child safety campaigns in Kano often rely on static posters, brochures, and occasional public service announcements that fail to capture the attention of a diverse audience. These methods tend to be passive and do not provide an interactive or engaging experience, which is critical for effective behavioral change (Ibrahim, 2023). As a result, many children and caregivers remain unaware of key safety protocols, contributing to preventable accidents and injuries. Although digital animation offers a dynamic medium to present safety information, its application in child safety awareness is limited by challenges such as high production costs, lack of technical expertise, and insufficiently tailored content that reflects local cultural contexts (Chinwe, 2024). This study aims to address these issues by designing and implementing a digital animation-based child safety awareness campaign that effectively communicates critical safety messages. The research will evaluate the campaign’s impact on audience engagement, knowledge retention, and behavioral change. Additionally, the study will explore the technical and operational challenges of producing and disseminating high-quality digital animations in Kano and propose strategies to optimize the campaign for broader reach and greater effectiveness. The goal is to provide a scalable, cost-effective solution that enhances child safety awareness and ultimately reduces the incidence of accidents among children in Kano (Afolabi, 2025).
Objectives of the Study
• To design and implement a digital animation-based child safety awareness campaign.
• To evaluate its impact on knowledge retention and behavior change.
• To identify challenges and propose strategies for optimization.
Research Questions
• How does digital animation enhance child safety awareness?
• What improvements in safety knowledge and behavior are observed?
• What challenges hinder effective campaign implementation, and how can they be addressed?
Significance of the Study
This study is significant as it explores the potential of digital animation to revolutionize child safety campaigns, creating engaging, interactive content that can effectively communicate critical safety information (Ibrahim, 2023). The findings will offer valuable guidance for public health agencies and educators in Kano, leading to improved child safety outcomes and reduced accident rates (Chinwe, 2024).
Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study is limited to the design, implementation, and evaluation of a digital animation-based child safety awareness campaign in Kano, Kano State. It focuses exclusively on digital media for public safety messaging.
